Common questions

Frequently asked

How much deposit do I need as a first-time buyer?

Most lenders want at least 5% of the property value, though the rates improve materially at 10%, 15% and 25%. A larger deposit lowers your loan to value, which is the single biggest driver of the rate you are offered.

Can I use a gifted deposit?

Most lenders accept a deposit gifted by a close family member, provided it is a genuine gift rather than a loan and the donor signs a letter confirming they retain no interest in the property. Criteria on who counts as family varies between lenders.
